Capacitors, IGBT Driver Card

In the architecture of an automated induction heating system, the Capacitors and IGBT Drive Cards function as the “energy reservoir” and the “central nervous system,” respectively.
1. Induction Heating Capacitors
These are high-power Resonant Capacitors specifically designed to handle massive reactive power and high frequencies.
  • The Power Factor Hero: They work with the induction coil to create a resonant circuit, ensuring the power supply operates at peak efficiency.
  • Water-Cooled Performance: Because they carry hundreds of amps, most industrial capacitors are water-cooled. Clogged internal channels are the #1 cause of capacitor “swelling” or explosion.
  • Spare Part Tip: Always stock capacitors with matching microfarad (µF) ratings and voltage limits; even a slight mismatch can de-tune the entire induction system and cause frequency faults.
2. IGBT Drive Cards (The Control Logic)
The Gate Driver Board is the interface between the low-voltage control PLC and the high-power IGBT modules.
  • Precision Switching: It converts digital signals into the precise voltage pulses required to “gate” (turn on/off) the IGBTs thousands of times per second.
  • Protection Circuits: Quality drive cards feature Desaturation Detection. If it senses a short circuit or an over-current spike, it shuts down the IGBT in microseconds to prevent a catastrophic “blow-out.”
  • Dead-Time Control: It ensures a “safety gap” between switching cycles, preventing a short circuit across the DC bus.
