Metal Joining

Metal joining is the essential engineering process of combining two or more metal components into a single unit. These methods are broadly categorized by the nature of the bond (permanent vs. temporary) and the physical state of the metal during the process.

  • Fasteners: Use of Nuts and Bolts, screws, and studs for fully temporary joints.
  • Riveting: Semi-permanent joining using a metal pin with a head. Common in aerospace and heavy structural work.
  • Interlocking: Techniques like hemming or clinching where the metal sheets themselves are folded or pressed together to form a mechanical lock.
